One hundred pieces of Gold junk, signed by artist Rebecca Locke, can be won from penny pusher slot machines throughout the amusement arcade at Bognor Pier.
This site-specific exhibition is part of Urban Encounters: City to Sea — a partnership between CUCR, Goldsmiths, University of London and Tate Britain.

Gold junk
The avant-garde took something of little value — discarded 80s style — and redeemed its value, influencing today’s electroclash-inspired style and culture. This is explored in the series Brooklyn//Bognor. Gold junk toys with this same idea of redemption, and the ascription of value.
Broken cuttlefish washed up on the shore are transformed — gilded Gold junk — to be placed in Bognor Regis’ pier arcade amusement machines and given value.
This June, 100 unique, signed pieces of Gold junk will be placed in the machines throughout the amusement arcade, as prizes available to be won by members of the public alongside traditional amusement arcade prizes.

Gold junk will be in the machines over the weekend of Friday June 11 to Sunday, June 13 to coincide with the Urban Encounters ‘City to Sea’ symposium and workshop event to be held in Bognor Regis, an event created in partnership with Goldsmiths and Tate Britain.
